Debating

East Adelaide has a long history of entering teams in the DebatingSA schools competition. Students who debate learn many skills which they take with them into the future. Debating increases confidence in public speaking and assists students to organise coherent and structured pieces of writing. Students in primary debating learn about:

  1. Analysis of topics
  2. Brainstorming and organising arguments
  3. Use of evidence and statistics
  4. Fallacies
  5. Listening and responding: effective rebuttal techniques.

Students who debate commit to working with their team to prepare and deliver 5 debates over Term 2 and 3 against other schools.
